It’s My Birthday—and MiFILM Is Asking for Something Bigger

For five years, we’ve shown up. Now we’re asking for the same.

A New Chapter

Today’s personal. It’s my 34th birthday—and this year, I’m asking for more than well wishes.

I’m asking for support for the collective I’ve helped build from the ground up.

For the last five years, MiFILM has been a home for creative misfits, cultural disruptors, and filmmakers often left out of the conversation, including Disabled talent like myself. We didn’t wait for the industry to change—we just started. And we’ve never asked for a dime. That’s not a flex. It’s just how we’ve moved: resourceful, defiant, collaborative.

But now, it’s time to grow.

We’re launching our first-ever public fundraising campaign through The Field, and we’re asking for your support to reach our summer goal of $60,000 to power:

  • Make News, Make Noise Season 2 (NYC, LA & ATL)

  • Our filmmaker grants and stipends

  • Community-based events and workshops

  • A year of programming built on purpose, equity, and care

MiFILM started with a single belief: improving the quality of life for underrepresented filmmakers isn’t just about getting a job…it’s about having food, housing, stability, and the audacity to keep creating in an unstable world. Yes, we’re all a little crazy to keep going. But can we be crazy and fed?

If you came to MiFILM, it’s because you trusted we could show you something good. If you stayed, it’s because you discovered something better—a better connection, a better way of working, a better purpose.

Now we’re asking you to invest in what we’ve built together. Here’s how:

No matter what year five brings MiFILM filmmakers are magnetic, incisive, and committed. We don’t ask for attention—we earn it. And we’re just getting started.

With love, rebellion, and deep thanks,
Brittany Franklin
