A special invitation to New Black Hollywood and call for shorts created by Disabled talent

You’re Invited

Join the American Cinematheque for New Black Hollywood, is a biannual cultural gathering spotlighting emerging Black filmmakers and rising Black industry leaders working across today’s entertainment landscape. Hosted at the historic Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood, the evening brings together filmmakers, executives, producers, creatives, and film lovers for a program that blends conversation, discovery and community.

This event is co-presented by Michael Oloyede’s Scene&Heard, Minorities in Film, and Hollywood Pivot tomorrow, Saturday, February 28th, 2026! 

We're excited to celebrate and uplift our very own Gianfranco Fernandez-Ruiz Director of "When Big People Lie" which is screening during the event.

Call for Submissions

NewFilmmakers LA x MiFILM InFocus

MiFilm is thrilled to partner with NewFilmmakers Los Angeles (NFMLA) for their 2026 Monthly Film Festivals! We’re spotlighting films by disabled filmmakers from our community. This event will take place in May and will be held at the NFMLA

Why Submit?

  • Screen your film to engaged audiences

  • Participate in Q&As, panels, and networking

  • Be eligible for Best of NFMLA Awards

  • Get your work seen by industry professionals and peers

Who Can Submit?

  • Shorts or features, narrative, documentary, live-action, or animation

  • Finished, festival-ready films that showcase your unique storytelling

  • Films with made by filmmakers with Disabilities and/or actively employed key Disabled personnel in the production cast or crew.

Community Storyteller Initiative

As Los Angeles prepares to host its historic third Olympic & Paralympic Games in 2028, PBS SoCal invites local storytellers to help capture the city’s story of legacy and transformation.

Through the Community Storyteller Initiative, we are commissioning short videos that explore the histories, neighborhoods, and cultural moments shaping the Games — and the people who carry those legacies forward today.
