Networking is getting a facelift! đź‘€ 

If you’ve been slowly making your debut into the social scene that is expos, showcases and festivals this season, you’ll quickly learn that the overall sentiment towards networking has shifted. Whether your goal is to scout new talent, find a future collaborator, or join a community - like MiFILM - the best angle to engage is to connect with the people behind the art. This month, we’re excited to keep doing just that!  With another successful Branded Lab under our belt, and a growing community, we’re happy to spotlight amazing people making dope art, and grants currently seeking applications.

This year's Branded Lab boasted 23 events, with groundbreaking panels featuring 47 speakers! Directors attended workshops to learn how to bid, treat and brand yourself along with career defining mentorship, networking sessions and peer support. Thank you to every one of our speakers for making the second year of The Branded Lab even better than the last! We hope to continue to bring more programming that builds better pipelines and champions underrepresented voices. For now, we're going to go be humans and give ourselves a hug!Congratulations to  Boson Wang, Nerris Navarez-Nassiri, Kayleb Lee, Cidney Hue, Lindsay Sunada, Alberta Poon, Adonis,Ricardo Betancourt, Sunny Perera, or Jacarrea Garraway! The journey doesn't stop here, we're dedicated to supporting the careers of these amazing Directors, so you'll see more updates of their latest work and achievements! 

This month's spotlight is on Luis G Santos. You might remember him as a 2021 Branded Lab fellow. Luis latest work includes a slate of VEVO Live performances from some of our favorite artists. We were lucky to welcome him back this year as a Mentor to our latest cohort of Branded Lab fellows.

NETFLIX New Grad Program NETFLIX has built a program for you to build community and connections at Netflix in your first year. You’ll also participate in programs to develop on-the-job skills. Pioneer Works Open CallBrooklyn, New YorkDeadline: September 30, 2022This residency for Visual Arts, Tech, and Music artists provides free studio space, access to important tools, resources, and mentorships, and opportunity to exhibit at Pioneer Works. They are seeking candidates who demonstrate artistic excellence in work outside the existing models and norms of their field. LALIFF Inclusion FellowshipDeadline: September 30th The LALIFF Inclusion Fellowship will be awarded to ten visionary writers/directors: five Indigenous Latino and five Afro/Black Latino. Each selected participant will receive $30,000, along with access to educational opportunities and mentorship from industry professionals. Grand Canyon Artist in Residence ProgramGrand Canyon, ArizonaDeadline: September 30, 2022This residency provides an artist with fully furnished accommodations in the historic Verkamp’s artist residence directly overlooking the Grand Canyon, and a stipend of $2,500 for eight weeks. The program is designed to support artists with a well-developed body of work that engages themes tied to conservation, cultural identity, and community. The Ida B Wells: Disrupting the Master Narrative Fund Filmmaker SubmissionDeadline:  Friday, October 28thThe Ida B. Wells: Disrupting the Master Narrative Fund SEEKS STORY that helps us understand our past, deconstruct our present, and envision a liberatory future. The Chromatic Black Collective is inviting submissions for the 2nd annual Ida B. Wells: Disrupting the Master Narrative Fund. (5) applicants will be selected to receive investments of $15,000 each to go toward the production of a short fiction, documentary, experimental or animated film running 9-18 minutes.Link to Apply: https://idabwellsfund.com/apply/

Deadline: Wednesday, October 5th, 2022 at 11:59p PDT.Emerging from the need for more children’s programming in Mexico, the Cartoon Network Mexico Children’s Animation Writing Program provides Mexico-based writers with resources and instruction to create an original children’s animation television pilot while exposing them to creatives and executives at Cartoon Network. Up to ten writers will be selected based on their material submissions and their ability to write for children’s animation.This 12-week program will kick-off in January 2023 and will take place virtually.The program is open to children's animation writers based in Mexico. Bilingual in Spanish and English is strongly encouraged. Applicants must also have the right to work in Mexico. To be eligible, candidates may not have staffed on more than 2 children's animation shows. Applicants will need to submit an original children's animation pilot (11 pages or less), as well as a 2-3 sentence pitch for a new original concept, along with a resume, bio and essay questions. An additional writing sample is optional, though this additional sample may not be an additional television script. IF/Then x The Redford Center Nature Competition PitchDeadline: October 3rdIF/Then x The Redford Center Nature Competition calls for filmmakers to share their short documentary works-in-progress focusing on connecting or reconnecting with nature for a pitch and professional development workshop series at Big Sky Documentary Film Festival 2023. The WAVE Grant Deadline: November 1st 2022The Wave Grant is devoted to helping emerging female and non-binary filmmakers of color tell their own “great f**king story.” This year we will select five recipients to receive a $5,000 seed grant for the production of their short film.
