Dear MiFILM community,
In light of recent events with the overturning of Roe v. Wade, we hope that this month you’ve been taking extra care of your minds and spirits and if you have it in you – exercising your civil rights, no matter how that looks to you.
As artists and as people of color, our work often mimics real life. Now more than ever we encourage you to not let these unprecedented times dull your shine. Let your voices be heard whether it be through your art or otherwise and remember that there is always a community for you here. Stay strong, fam.
Abraham Felix is an award-winning New Orleans-based film and commercial director by way of writing, editing, and cinematography. Specializing in observational cinema, his work explores interiority, humanity, and relational complexity.
Abraham recently directed
for BLHF under prod. co. Windy Films and has been nominated for two Webby awards, and been awarded two separate placements on the 2022 AICP Next Awards shortlists.
The Unspoken Curriculum was highlighted in both branded content and purpose driven categories. AND The Unspoken Curriculum has received two (!!!) Clio Silver level entry awards. One for branded entertainment & content and the other in the Director category. LET'S GO ABE!!

The 13th Epson International Pano AwardsOpen internationally, the 13th annual Epson International Pano Awards celebrates all facets of panoramic photography. International Art Textile Biennale 2023Open to international applicants, Fibre Arts Australia is seeking submissions reflecting contemporary textile practice as an art form in the International Art Textile Biennale with prizes totaling AU$15,000. Media Arts Assistant FundThis fund provides individual New York-based artists with support for the completion and/or public presentation of new works in all genres of sound and moving image art, including emergent technology. Southern Artists for Social ChangeThis National Performance Network program provides $25,000 project grants to artists and culture bearers of color living, working, and engaging in social change in urban, rural, and tribal communities of Alabama, Louisiana, and Mississippi.Deadline: 5 p.m. CST on July 29, 2022.
$500,000 Creative Capital x Skoll Foundation FundKickstarter, Creative Capital, and Skoll Foundation launched a $500,000 Creative Capital x Skoll Foundation Fund to support projects by Asian, Black, Indigenous, and Latinx creators. Awards are given out on an ongoing basis to creators in categories like Arts, Comics & Illustration, Design & Tech, Film, Food & Craft, Games, Music, and Publishing.Deadline: Rolling.
Adobe Creative Residency Community FundAdobe’s Creative Residency Community Fund commissions visual artists to create company projects on a rolling basis. Foundation for Contemporary Arts Emergency GrantDo you have an unanticipated opportunity to present your work? Did you incur an unexpected expense that you didn’t budget for?
